About Selank - 5MG
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) designed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a metabolically stabilized analog of the endogenous immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg). The parent sequence is extended at the C-terminus with Pro-Gly-Pro to increase resistance to enzymatic breakdown. Experimental studies report that Selank administration alters the expression of numerous genes involved in GABAergic neurotransmission in rodent frontal cortex within about one hour of dosing, and comparative clinical-research literature has described its anxiolytic magnitude as broadly comparable to the benzodiazepine medazepam while additionally showing antiasthenic and mild psychostimulant characteristics. Unlike benzodiazepines, it is reported not to bind GABA receptors directly.
These results originate from in-vitro assays, animal models, and investigational clinical research reported largely in the Russian-language literature; they characterize the compound in research contexts and are not offered as evidence of clinical efficacy or safety for general use.
Selank was developed jointly by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Zakusov Research Institute of Pharmacology as a stabilized analog of tuftsin, extending the natural Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg tetrapeptide with Pro-Gly-Pro.
